My Morning Skin Care Routine
ft Ultraderm Cosmeceuticals
Hi everyone!
Amy here from Essentially You Skin and Beauty in Turramurra. Gosh it's been a while since I've written a blog!!
For those of you who follow me on my socials; Instagram "essentially.you.turramurra" & Facebook "Essentially You Skin and Beauty", you would have already seen my video on what I use on my skin every morning. So here is a detailed blog about each and every one of those products, their benefits and how to use them.
Let me start off with telling you a bit about my skincare choice, Ultraderm.
Ultraderm is an Australian Cosmeceutical. Australian made and owned! Who doesn't love supporting Australian products, especially during this time! They have been around since 2009! Every single one of their products have the highest quality and highest percentage in active ingredients before it becomes prescription strength. Due to this, their products give guaranteed, immediate and long lasting results!
Now, that's talk about what exactly I use on my skin every morning, and ultimately, what YOU should also be using!
Firstly...
I like to give my skin a deep and thorough cleanse with the Skin Renew Cleanser. This is a beautiful gel cleanser that lathers up into a gentle foam. Nothing beats a good gel cleanser with a gentle foam that doesn't strip your skin! There is a myth out there, believed by many people, that you don't need to cleanse your face in the morning because you've already done it the night before and all you've done is lie in bed.
WRONG! SO WRONG!
As we sleep our skin cells and oil glands are still "working". Our skin cells don't stop regenerating just because we're asleep, our oil glands don't stop producing sebum just because we're asleep! All our bodily organs are still functioning while we're asleep, so why wouldn't our skin, the largest organ of our body, be doing the same? Hence that morning cleanse is just as important as that evening cleanse! We want to cleanse deep into the pores, all that unwanted build up of oil as well as the products from the night before, especially retinol (Vitamin A), which will cause unwanted pigmentation if used prior to UV ray exposure. After all, we need a clean, fresh palette for applying our treatment serums!
How to use:
Apply to damp skin. Emulsify the gel with wet fingertips and massage all over the face and neck area in small circular motions. Make sure to massage into the nasal folds and the folds where our lower lip meets our chin. These are common areas where people forget to cleanse and these are the problematic areas prone to congestion. Rinse off with tepid water and pat dry.
Secondly...
A few spritzes of the Skin Karma Hydration Toner.
This toner will help to hydrate, tone and brighten the skin. It gives your skin that natural freshness without the harsh alcohol or perfumes.
The benefit of toning is that it moistens the skin, so it is properly prepared for serum absorption.
Thirdly...
Now our skin is well prepared for the application of our treatment serums.
The first serum to apply is the Absolute B3 Serum. This hydrating and skin strenghtening serum contains potent, cell communicating actives; Hyaluronic acid and Niacinamide (Vitamin B3). These actives help to improve our skin cell function, skin tone, increase hydration and to promote an even complexion.
Hyaluronic Acid
- Is naturally occurring in our skin and is what holds moisture (water) to our skin cells
- Holds up to 1000x it's own weight in water
- As we age, like collagen, our production slows down- which is why it is important to use this topically
- Gives our skin plumpness, brightness and hydration
Niacinamide
- Treats so many skin conditions- I will just list a few main ones
- Reduces free-radical damage that causes premature ageing
- Reduces TEWL (transepidermal water loss) thus enhancing skin's barrier function and increasing hydration
- Reduces pigmentation by inhibiting melanin transfer from melanocytes (melanin forming cell) to keratinocytes (epidermal cell which produces the protein that make up our skin)
- Regulates and normalises our excess sebum production
- Anti-inflammatory
- Improve our blood flow and blood circulation for healthier skin complexion
How to use:
Apply in the morning after cleansing. One pump onto fingertips and gently press into the skin. Try not to rub this serum into the skin as it will go foamy.
The second serum to apply in the morning is the IntenC20 Serum. This is a beautiful, rich, "oil based" 20% vitamin C serum. It helps to increase skin radiance, collagen stimulation and skin hydration which results in a glowing, healthy complexion. This serum is an essential step in an anti-aging skincare routine.
How to use:
Apply in the morning after applying the Absolute B3 Serum. One pump onto the fingertips and gently massage into the skin. Avoiding the eye area. A slight warmth is normal.
I always tell my clients that if they need to prioritise what skincare to invest in first, ALWAYS invest in a good quality serum. Serums are made to penetrate into the skin and treat our skin conditions and concerns! Watch how your skin transforms with using a high quality serum!
Lastly...
The very important Daily Protective Moisturiser SPF 30+! SPF is the most important anti-aging product you will ever need as over exposure to the sun's harsh UV rays are one of the biggest reasons for premature aging. I will write another blog on the damaging effects of the sun on our skin but here is a quick fact:
"MORE THAN 90%
of what we think of as skin "looking old" is actually caused by the sun,
not age"
I love Ultraderm's SPF 30+ because not only does it provide me with sun protection, it is also full of antioxidants which my skin loves! It is light in texture (not thick, like most SPF 30s can be), doesn't feel oily on my skin and doesn't irritate sensitive skin!
How to use:
Apply in the morning after all the other beautiful products I have just spoken about. Warm a small pea size amount in your fingertips and massage into the skin. If going into the water, apply 20 minutes prior and remember to re-apply after swimming, towelling or physical exercise. I also like to mix this SPF moisturiser with a pump of the All in One Balm SPF 15. It has great tinted coverage and acts as a perfect tinted moisturiser or primer for your foundation!
So there you have it, my daily, morning skincare routine! I hope you have all thoroughly enjoyed reading what I use on my skin and maybe you've even picked up a few pointers to add to your morning skincare routine!
